Human Rights & Public Interest Litigation

At Michael Okejimi & Co. Law Empire, we have a keen interest in the observance of the rule of law and our adroit and polished litigators champion this course. We offer free legal services to the poor and indigent citizens whose rights have been grossly infringed but have no resources to pursue the course of ventilating their grievances in the appropriate forum. In this regard, we file fundamental right actions for them to enforce their rights.

Also, we take up public interest litigation as our CSR and as a means of promoting good governance and rule of law in Nigeria. We recently filed an Originating Summons at the Federal High Court, Abuja Division against (1)The erstwhile Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Honourable Yakubu Dogara, (2) Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), (3) All Progressives Congress (APC), (4) The Honourable Speaker of the House of Representatives, (5) Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), and (6) The Honourable Attorney General of the Federation, seeking the Court’s interpretation of the provisions of Sections 68(1)(g), 221 and 65(2)(b) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 (as amended) vis-à-vis whether Rt. Honourable Yakubu Dogara (a public authority/officer) has not automatically vacated his seat as a member of the House of Representatives, having defected from the political party that sponsored his election into the House.
